Founded in 1988, the International Trauma Anesthesia and Critical Care Society (ITACCS) is the internationally recognized association of trauma specialists
providing integrity and continuity of trauma care from the field, to the emergency department, the operating room, and through to the intensive care unit. ITACCS was
specifically founded for the purposes of
- furthering the development of traumatologists,
- providing a forum for ideas and techniques for managing injured patients, and
- providing an educational framework for the training of trauma anesthesia,
emergency medicine, and critical care specialists.
With the recent dramatic improvements in trauma-related health care, ITACCS membership has expanded to encompass anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists,
surgeons, critical care specialists, emergency medicine professionals, pediatric specialists, and other physicians and non-physicians involved in caring for trauma
patients.
More than 1,000 ITACCS members are committed to the worldwide development of traumatology. Increased involvement of anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists, emergency
physicians, intensivists, and trauma surgeons in trauma care and in ITACCS
will lead to development of protocols for trauma anesthesia and critical care,
as well as other improvements in trauma management.
